Prior to the 1880s, Dr. Robert Fuller of New York, developed the method of making tablet triturates. Fuller described it as "A new device for putting medicine into a form that should admit an accurate, easy, compact and palatable administration". The tablets which were also known as "molded tablets", were made from a paste like mixture of the drug. The making of tablet triturates was a process easily adapted for use in the local pharmacy and most druggists of the late 19th century and early 20th century prepared the tablets using the small molds.
This tablet mold is a wonderful ONE GRAIN example of and early pharmacy "tool of the trade" and should not be missed by the novice or advanced collector. The mold is complete with the original box and in very nice condition except for minor surface wear that is commensurate with mild use and age.
The box measures 6.5 inches long x 3 inches wide and shows mild wear. Don't miss this beauty! Dates from 1890 - 1900.

This fabulous, 1870s era, portable or travel, medicine bottle case was discovered in a Worcester, MA home. There are 40 of the 42 original corked vials present, 2 are missing labels, and 10 (which would have once contained liquid) are missing contents. In fact, most of the vials are full of colorful pills, remaining unused and still retaining a red wax seal imprinted with the letter "B" for Brewer and Co. The leather case is in good condition with the expected wear and tear of aged, 140+ year old leather. It is missing one internal flap, measures 13" long x 5" wide x 3" deep, and weighs nearly 5 pounds. Some history : E. Avery Brewer was born in 1853 in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, graduating from the Wilbraham Academy as a chemist. At the age of 21, he moved to Worcester, MA and became a prominent wholesale and retail druggist there until his death in 1917 from heart disease. He was the owner of Brewer & Co. and various other enterprises including drug companies, a lime quarry in Vermont, and Continental Food Products Co. of Worcester, to name a few.
A fabulous piece of New England Medical and Apothecary history!

Offered for sale is a 19th century, moderate-sized, apothecary pharmacy bottle sporting a AROM. SPT. AMMONIA label! The 10 inch tall bottle has hazy appearance to the interior and is marked “W.T.& Co.” on the base. This label under glass (LUG) spirit bottle is in fine condition with only 1 small ding on the upper (L) side of the mouth. The mushroom stopper sports ground glass construction and is in very nice condition except for a few small flecks on the inside the stopper base. The glass label is complete though ancient crackling to the painted portion is seen in the photos. A crack to the label is evident starting at the second (M) in ammonia and ends at the right edge. Overall condition is very good, and the bottle displays well.

Perhaps the holy grail of quality made and rare 19th century pharmacy tools of the trade. This beauty sports an attractive brass label, has nickel plated embellishments and 3 steel moulds. One mould has attached brass compressor plates for sealing the powder filled medicine bread like wafers. Cachets provided the early pharmacist the means to accurately fill wafers with the proper dose and to enhance production. Mould construction is of high end components and will serve well as the centerpiece of any collection. Measures 9 1/2" L x 6" W x 1" H and weighs over 5 pounds. Very nice condition, lovely patina and undamaged.
