$60.00

This difficult to find 1902 handbook utilized by Navy medical corps members and their instructors was issued from the Department of the Navy and is entitled, "Drill Regulations for the Hospital Corps United States Navy".

Quite fascinating, the manual contains many illustrations noting basic recruit and squad techniques for formation and marching as well as proper technique and formation for establishing units of "stretcher squads" and all associated medical procedures.

The manual is leather bound, complete, and has a total of 61 printed pages with 10 additional blank pages in the back suitable for note taking. Measurements are a convenient 5.25" X 4". The condition is generally good although the binding has separated and the covers show modest wear with one loose page and an edge piece missing.

An interesting peek into the role and development of our armed medical forces at the turn of the century.

$55.00

Framed in an intricate black tone molding with museum quality, acid-free mat and mounting materials, this Circa 1915, pastel-colored, McCall's Magazine Fashion print will be well-preserved for many, many years to come.

This carefree print features a Mother playing the piano as her young children dance and older siblings look on.

Photography was a challenge in an attempt to avoid flash reflections. As such, please note that the subtle coloring- grays, pinks, greens, blues, and yellows- are even throughout the print, with crisp, clear detailing. Any distortion seen in pics is entirely due to photography challenges only!

Framed piece measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2". Very fine condition, professionally framed, ready to hang!!

$65.00

Offered is a lovely, double, gutta-percha photograph case holding two early 19th century tin types of two different women, as well as a teeny, uncased, tin type of a third woman.

The double gutta-percha case measures 2.5 inches wide x 3 inches long x .75 inches deep when closed, and 5 inches wide when opened. The case appears to be in excellent condition!

The two cased tin types are each further framed within different press-molded, thin, ornate, brass frame and behind a little pane of glass. Each tin type is labeled with the name of the woman: the bonneted woman is Sarah Lavinia Piquet, and the long-haired woman is Maria Rogere.

Mid-19th century age is an approximation based on clothing style as well as decorative art in photo and style of double case.

$20.00 each

Turn back the clock 70 or more years and imagine what similar, vintage placards looked like tacked upon residential or other public buildings! Rather obtrusive but necessary! Flash forward to the present - today, there are specialized masks and hospital rooms designed to quarantine the afflicted.

Offered are two different styles of quarantine signs, and each sign is being sold separately.

These signs are unused stock from the 1930 - 1940s era, and except for a few edge crimps, are in excellent condition. They measure 14"L x 12"H and are printed on a heavy, bight orange-colored stock. Please note that the colors are even throughout-- the flash has caused the appearance of uneven coloration. Perfect for framing!

As each is priced separately (see photos for pricing), please email us stating which item you wish to purchase so that we can customize your order form.

$125.00

The book, THOMPSON IN AFRICA or AN ACCOUNT OF THE MISSIONARY LABORS, SUFFERINGS, TRAVELS, AND OBSERVATIONS is the compilation of the journal kept by missionary George Thompson while working at the Mendi Mission in Sierra Leone, Africa, during the period 1848-1851. This is a second edition published in 1852, printed for the author by William Harned, 48 Beekman Street, New York City (the first edition was published in 1851).

George Thompson’s missionary service to Africa occurs approximately 7 years after the MENDI natives of the AMISTAD were accompanied by missionaries on their return to Africa. He serves this very same mission, now in the of colony Sierra Leone, a colony which was established to serve as refuge for the liberated Africans taken from slave ships. 356 pages long, this journal provides a fascinating account of all aspects of the Mendi culture seen through the eyes, however biased in his mission to convert the Africans to Christianity, of a genuinely well-meaning gentleman of his time. Condition: complete, tight binding, foxing throughout, spine wear as shown in picture.

Thompson states, “It is hoped that the following narrative may, in the hands of GOD, awaken a desire in many hearts to go to Africa, for the purposes of preaching, teaching, farming, building houses, mills, manufactories, etc., and thus assist in making long despised and neglected AFRICA, what it is capable of becoming, THE GARDEN OF THE WORLD.”

$95.00

This complete, 204 page, 1886 atlas is packed with wonderful hand-colored maps of the United States, each individual state, and the countries and continents of the world including two pages devoted to the principal cities of the world. Additionally, this teaching tool provides an interesting history of the political parties of the United States from 1607-1886, a chronological outline of American history from 986 to 1885, an illustration of the seals of each state, population charts, important inventions, an alphabetical list of the towns and counties of each state and many more examples of fascinating and obscure US historical trivia!

The hardbound text measures 14" L x 12" W. The cloth covers are faded with worn edges. The back cover remains bound to the spine. The front cover has become unbound from the book spine but remains loosely attached to the book via its cloth binding. The pages have light unobtrusive foxing while the hand-coloring remains unchanged by time. The majority of the maps and images measure 9.5" x 12" at the decorative borders. There are a handful of larger maps measuring 12" x 16" at their borders, i.e. Texas, Pennsylvania, California, USA, and South America (a bit smaller).

Published by Donahue and Henneberry, Printers and Binders, Chicago, March 1886.

A fabulous historical reference text and atlas that provides a perspective on the United States and the world in 1886. The maps and images are suitable for framing if desired, but this historical text begs to remain intact!
