Fabulous ART DECO reverse painted-on-glass pharmacy ( HOSPITAL SUPPLIES ) sign that once resided on the façade of the historic JAMES PHARMACY, located in New London, CT! During the late 19th century, the James Pharmacy manufactured its own proprietary medicines! The pharmacy was active through the 1980's and was accessed by a variety of famous CT natives over its many years in operation- most notably artists and actors owning property in CT's southeastern shoreline communities- including the late Katherine Hepburn.
This uncommon sign measures 12” wide x 48” long and is in very nice condition considering its many years of storage. (The glare is from camera flash only- it does not indicate any damage.) The black painted background appears to have been professionally restored sometime in the past and is near perfect. The mirrored, silver leaf lettering is original, complete, has wonderful visual appeal and is in very good condition. The sturdy plate glass is also in fine condition. This early sign has is framed and ready to display in your home or office! A fabulous and unique advertising piece representing early CT pharmacy history!
