PHI-TEM (fight - them!!!). An unusual all around treatment remedy for the relief of many conditions including: Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Neuralgia, Neuritis, Lumbago, Congestion of the Lungs, Flu, Coughs, Colds, Croup and Swelling! The tin is full of medicated gauze which was placed in boiling water creating a paste which was then applied hot with a towel. Neat stuff created by the "PHI-TEM COMPANY, North Chelmsford, MA." Condition is very good with original contents and somewhat faded purple colored paper label. Measures 3 inches tall and appears to be from 1930-1940 era.

Measuring 4 inches high, these sweet little Mammies have hand-painted wooden faces that are actually the handles to the metal dinner bells revealed under their voluminous skirts! Each Mammy wears a different cotton dress with complimentary aprons and bandannas. If one looks under the skirt of the Mammy dressed in the red and white checked dress skirt, her original price sticker remains adhered to the bell and reads $4.95!! Another Mammy dressed in a brown print dress, retains her original paper tag that reads "From Williamsburg" (Virginia). Produced as whimsical souvenir items, these teeny Mammies display nicely as well as quite easily given their tiny stature! When ordering, please specify the inventory number shown under each individual photo so that we can customize your order form.

A wonderful example of hand-crafted Black Americana Folk Art! This wonderful Depression Era piece features a whimsical 10 inch long cutout figure of a little wooden black girl with hand-painted smiling mouth and eyes! She is dressed in a hand-stitched cotton costume that has been stuffed with scrap fabric. Her feet feature two brass-finish hooks, presumably to either hang keys or pot holders from. Her ears each have a punched out hole--whether this is functional or purely decorative remains a mystery. A small brass hoop threaded through a piece of fabric which was then tacked to the back of the girl's head facilitates hanging on a wall. Overall condition is fine with age-related soiling to the dress and minor paint wear typical of a 70 year-old-piece. One of my favorite hand-made pieces with true folk art appeal!

Each measuring 7 inches high x 5 inches wide x 1.75 inches in depth, this lovely pair of circa 1930’s, ceramic, Black Nubian Male and Female planters are believed to be of Japanese origin, although they are unmarked. Hand-painted white and black with lovely gold accenting, the pair remain in utterly superb condition! No wear, chips, breaks, or repairs, and just a hint of superficial age crackling to the glaze. The numerous photographs tell the story! It is likely this pair was little used! Much visual appeal! An unusual Black Americana find!

Offered and sold separately are 2 vintage 1940 era drug store medicine advertising signs. The colorful signs are made of a heavy cardboard type material and measure 18" high x 13" wide and are in very good condition. There is unobtrusive expected edge and surface wear commensurate with age and use to both signs. The photo demonstrates the only tear to the "malaria" sign which measures 2 inches next to the "L" on the left edge.Overall the signs can be mounted in a frame of your choice. Early pharmacy signs in this condition and subject matter remain elusive.

Measuring 14 inches high x 8 inches wide, this early 1900, exotic Female Blackamoor, metal frame is complete with original 8" x 10" beveled mirror. A difficult to find, captivating piece! Unmarked. This vintage piece of Black Americana is in wonderful condition absent a very tiny break at the tip of the base (see photo); it is not easily evident that the very extreme edge of the right base is missing a tiny piece. The frame easily dissassembles into 3 parts for safe shipping and/or storage (see photo).

Measuring 14 inches wide x 5 5/8 inches long, this wonderful, all-original, 1930's cardboard sign advertises Fook's Original Ice Cold 5 Cent Blackberry Punch sign. The sign features a stereotypical, bare-footed, straw-hatted black boy holding a basket of berries in one hand, and a large bottle of Blackberry Punch in the other. The sign is in all-original condition. It bears the scars of its age and has dirt and water staining. The lower right corner is missing and the lower left corner has torn off but was clumsily re-taped in place at some time during its history. Despite its flaws, this is a rare piece of Black ephemera advertising an obscure local, southern-brand soft drink. It would look phenomenal framed!
