Offered is a wonderful, vintage pharmacy advertising sign from a bygone era. This fabulous 19th century sign is constructed of heavy gauge brass and sports incised lettering "PRESCRIPTION DRUGGIST" as well as complimentary Victorian stylized detailing. This visually striking sign measures 17.5 inches wide x 24 inches high and weighs nearly 8 pounds. There are 10 holes drilled into the sign designed to support wall mounting. The following maker's name is scribed into the lower left base of the sign: "L.H. MOISE. - San Francisco". Research indicates that L.H. Moise was a very prominent company operating under that name from 1893 - 1897; the company made high quality signage, tokens, badges, and medals. Condition: surface patina, various minor scratches and blemishes are noted, all quite typical of a 100+ year old sign. The flat black paint within the letters and detailing appears to be a 20th century addition. An exquisite and eye-dazzling piece of 19th century pharmacy memorabilia, likely---one of a kind!

Offered is wonderful, late 19th century, pharmacy, tool of the trade that is in near perfect, and perhaps, unused condition. It is of a hardwood construction skillfully crafted on a lathe. It retains most of its original shellac finish and measures 3.25 inches in diameter x 3/4 inches thick. There are two polishing / rounding surfaces to this tool, each for pills of a different depth. This instrument was used in the latter phase of pill making. The partially formed pills were placed upon a flat dusted board and the pharmacist would move the roller over the board in a figure eight motion to facilitate forming rounded pills. Perfect for your pharmacy collection!

Offered are 3 Circa 1900, John Wyeth & Brother, amber-colored, 4 ounce, extract bottles all of which are empty. Each bottle is in fine condition, measuring 4.75 inches high and sporting good labels. Prices: AMERICAN HELLEBORE is $30.00 and the other 2 are $20.00 each.Medicine history:
AMERICAN HELLEBORE (poison) : The plant is highly toxic, causing nausea and vomiting. If the poison is not evacuated, cold sweat and vertigo appears. Respiration slows, cardiac rhythm and blood pressure falls, eventually leading to death.
It is used externally by several Native American nations. Although is rarely ever used in modern herbalism, it has been used in the past against high blood pressure and rapid heartbeat. EUPHORBIA PILUIFERA - noted in an 1891 JAMA abstract: Quite recently, at the suggestion of my friend Dr. E. T. Sabal, of Jacksonville, Florida, I have used the remedy named, euphorbia pilulifera, for the relief of a most stubborn case of hereditary asthma, and the results are such that I feel warranted in calling the attention of the profession to it, and also making an effort to compile some statistics which will be of service to us in the future. It is a popular domestic remedy in Australia, and has been used for the relief of coughs, colds and other like disturbances of the air-passages, but more especially in the treatment of asthma. CRAMP BARK: Historically the eclectic physicians recommended it to support the body's adaptation associated with menstruation. It has also been found to be useful for the common complaints associated with normal menstrual cycles. VERATRUM VIRIDE - used in the Treatment of Eclampsia - The use of V. album centers around its toxic potential. It had been used as a poison during Roman times and an extract of the plant was used as an arrow tip poison. Small doses had been used to treat symptoms of cholera, often with less than desirable effects. White hellebore had been used in place of Colchicum for the treatment of gout, to aid in the treatment of hypertension, and externally to treat herpetic lesions, but its use has always been limited by its toxicity.

Offered for your consideration is a very hard to find, 1950s, product dispenser labeled KOTEX FEMININE NAPKINS, complete with key. Machines such as this were traditionally found in public bathrooms. The napkin selling price IS marked at only 5 cents, which signifies an earlier model. The dispenser measures 20.5 inches high x 7 inches wide and just over 5 inches deep. The cabinet opens up revealing the inner compartment that would have housed the individually wrapped feminine napkins, and a paper label that lists installation, operation, and coin box instructions, as well as servicing locations. The front panel sports an old label noting the very prestigious FRICK BUILDING in New York City as the dispenser's place of installation and use. (This building is actually the former Frick family mansion built in 1913, now called the Frick Collection and Frick Art Reference Library, located at 1 East 70th Street, Manhattan, New York City.
The Frick Collection was founded by Henry Clay Frick (1849-1919), the Pittsburgh coke and steel industrialist. At his death, Mr. Frick bequeathed his New York residence and the most outstanding of his many art works to establish a public gallery for the purpose of “encouraging and developing the study of the fine arts.”) The dispenser's condition is considered very good noting the expected patina of a used dispenser with various scuffs, paint wear and a minor bump on the edge just below the letter "K". This is a heavy item so it will not fall into the parameters of our frequent free shipping offer. Please inquire for pricing on shipping.

With pleasure are offered an extremely rare grouping of 19, highly decorative, metal, Apothecary or Pharmacy cabinet drawer pulls! Each pull is hefty in weight and is fabulously embellished with a variety of different stylized, early Victorian designs.
The pulls are individualized via a same-metal label that has been securely affixed with solder, and each pull carries a unique label, so no two pulls are labeled alike. **** The following pulls remain available for purchase: SOD BOR P, SOD CHLOR, EX GLYCYRRH, WHITING, SEIDLITZ MIX, SOD BORAS, MATCHES, MAGNES SULPIT, SAPO CAST, PAPERS SEID, SAL ROCHELLE, POTAS NIT, PUMEX, TANACETUM, MAGNES CARB, SOD CARB **** The pulls measure 4 inches long x 1.75 inches high and feature 2 mounting holes on each side. Metal composition is unknown; however, a magnet will not stick to the pulls. {A simplistic and general explanation: magnets will not attract non-iron-containing metals such as aluminum, copper, silver, lead, brass or bronze.} Fabulously decorative and guaranteed to enhance the front of your early pharmacy cabinet --- or get creative and try them on drawers or cabinets in the kitchen or bathroom!
