This signed, original artwork rendered in 2002 by the emerging New Orleans, self-taught, Folk Artist, L. Sister Raya, measures 16 X 20 inches. Completed in acrylic paint on acid free water color paper, this artwork has been mounted on acid free foam core which can continue to be used as the artwork's backing when the piece is permanently framed. For the artwork's protection, it has been temporarily sealed in acid-free shrink-wrap which can be easily removed when required. The vibrant colors in combination with the preacher’s soulful, heavenward gaze make this an appealing and thought-provoking image. This artwork is further complimented by a transcription of Sister’s interpretation of this art work, “Preacher man prays to God for a word of wisdom to share with his people so that they may hear from God and not from his heart. Preacher man holds a full time job makin stuff with his hands. Preacherman won’t take money from his flock least he may be tempted to become lazy and greedy and lose his true callin. The call of the lord is mighty and hearin his voice clear takes all he got. Devil always slipping round tryin to trip him up. Devil might try to trip you up too, so make sure you seeking the voice of God.” |
