This highly-decorative, 19th century, apothecary pharmacy bottle cork press measures 9.75 inches long. An Art Nouveau stylized scroll design enhancing the piece blends form and function in a lovely way! Cork presses were a standard piece of equipment in early drug stores and apothecaries. Corks used to cap old glass drug bottles were first soaked in water and then compressed in the cork press before inserting them into the bottle. The condition is very nice with no damage noted! There are 4 holes in the base for attaching the press to the pharmacist's working counter. An interesting addition to your pharmacy collection! |
