Measuring 4 3/8 inches long x 3 1/2inches wide x 3/4 inches high, this rarely found, 1920’s Dutch CADENA cigarette/cigar “fuminettes” tin retains a very stunning and detailed pictorial litho. The lithographed cover features a very muscular West Indies Native holding a large tobacco leaf upon which is printed, “Compania CADENA”. The litho also depicts a large, round grass hut as well as a substantially-sized Great House, no doubt, the operational center of this West Indies tobacco plantation. In the foreground are four, red-flowering tobacco plants. The tin is in very fine condition with the expected superficial scratches and rubs to the 80+ year old litho along with some light rust spots on the inside bottom of the tin. The interior of the cover reads: “FUMINETTES, Compania Cadena, Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Utrecht” A fascinating and early tin equally at home in the Black Memorabilia or Tobacciana Collection! Please take note of the available-for-purchase companion piece to this tin—a wonderful, near-mint, equally-rare, 1920’s, Compania Cadena cigar box featuring the same handsome lithographed image as the tin! The two make a rather stunning pair! |
