Offered for sale is a rare grocery and sundries ledger from the French Brothers Grocers of Hartford, Connecticut. Dated 1881-1882 and packed from front to back with hand-written entries noting the popular food products and sundries of the day. Most of entries include the customer's name, the items purchased, and cost. The leather bound ledger is worn on the exterior, has a good spine and measures 14 inches high x 6 inches wide. This text was purchased at a local estate sale and the owner stated that it came from the French Brothers Grocers. Names noted in the ledger include "G. B. Hubbell, Ed Swift, F.W. Barrows, E.F. Burnham, H. Williams, Silas Chapman, J.P. Brainard, Mrs. Fitch, J. Hale, and 100's more! A neat piece of Connecticut history! |
