Offered are two, 19th century, anti-slavery pamphlets-- two different speeches delivered in the United States Senate relative to the issue of slavery in the territories prior to the American Civil War. The first pamphlet is entitled "KANSAS--The Law of Slavery" given by the Honorable Daniel Clark, Senator from New Hampshire. It was delivered in the Senate on March 15, 1858, and is 23 pages in length. The back page is imprinted "Washington, D.C. Buell & Blanchard, Printers, 1858. The second pamphlet is a printing of the speech entitled "Territorial Slave Code" given by the Honorable Henry Wilson of Massachusetts. It was delivered in the US Senate on January 25, 1860, and is 16 pages in length. Both are complete, original, 19th century printings of these speeches and are essential readings for those interested in the unfortunate history of American Slavery. Each pamphlet is missing its plain paper cover, and Senator Wilson's pamphlet is missing its back paper cover. Bindings are tight. Old water stains and age-foxing as noted in photos. All text is quite readable and are not impaired by staining. |
