Measuring 15.25 inches in diameter and 5.25 inches high, this magnificent and absolutely HUGE, C1920, Ohio-made, yellow ware, spongeware mixing bowl or water basin features fabulous blue sponging and is much more striking “in person” than the photos were able to capture.

The bowl sits on a 1/2” footed base and has a lovely turned edge rim. It has glaze crazing typical of an 85+ year old piece of pottery but no cracks, chips or hairlines. Remnants of gold gilt decoration along the rim still remain. Would be fabulous as receptacle for a very large plant or to hold a large water pitcher!

An outstanding piece of American Spongeware! Becoming much more difficult to find- particularly in this condition!

Please type the word "spongeware" into the Search box to find the other pieces of C1900-1920 Ohio Yellowware Spongeware currently being offered for sale. All pieces are prices separately.

Offered is a bucolic and beautifully-colored, medium-folio, copyrighted 1854, Nathaniel Currier, New York, lithograph entitled, "Catching A Trout". The image measures approximately 10" x 14", and depicts a fancily-dressed African-American man "netting" the trout caught by one of the two well-dressed gentleman enjoying a relaxing day of fishing. This Currier + Ives lithograph is infrequently found, and is quite highly collectible.

Condition of the litho is considered very good given the rich coloration that remains. Some minor wear does exist: 2 small tears measuring less than 1/2 inch each on either side border edge-- one in the trees on the right side and the other on the left side in the water. There are several teeny holes in the sky to the right of the bearded gentleman's fishing pole as well as one single hole in the black gentleman's hair. (Please see photos.) Some wear to the border at top as shown in photos.

Despite the noted imperfections, this lithograph displays beautifully, with rich color and crisp lines. It presently resides in an early 1920's frame without glass; it requires appropriate re-framing with acid-free materials to continue to preserve its historic importance.

Offered is a scarce, Civil War era, clear glass, hand-blown apothecary bottle sporting an appealing label under glass label that is marked 'SPIR. AETH. NIT.'. The pontilled base, ground glass stopper, and stunning gold gilt label make this bottle very desirable!

The condition of this 10 inch tall bottle is excellent. The label has a few tiny edge flecks, a small chip on the lower right hand corner, and an unobtrusive, top-to-bottom crack on the right side that runs through the letter 'T'. As seen in the photos, the label appears very nice visually, despite what I would consider minimal damage.

An early bottle that displays beautifully!

This signed, original artwork rendered in 2003 by the emerging, self-taught, New Orleans, Louisiana Folk Artist, L. Sister Raya, measures 11 X 14 inches.

The work is entitled, "Coffee With the Spirit World" and is done in acrylics on watercolor paper. It comes mounted on acid-free foam core which can continue to be used when the piece is framed.

Of this piece of artwork, Sister Raya says, “When peoples get up in the morning they slog on coffee and stumble round full of stress and worry, but they don’t be knowin that’s the time when the spirit folk be slippin round they heads. They be friendly folk and like you to say good morning to them. People go too fast today, slow down when you be drinkin yo coffee and say good mornin!”

The vibrant blues, yellows and reds make this art work tremendously visually appealing and thought-provoking!

Offered is a very desirable group of vintage, pharmacy bottles and medicine from the 1930s to 1950s era.

The two cocaine bottles from Merck and Mallinckrodt are the gems of this listing! The diminutive Merck DIONIN bottle and Schering MEDINAL Barbitol labelled box are quite collectible as well. Finally, the Lilly MORPHINE bottle, which sports a tax stamp, rounds out quite a quintet!

For perspective, the Mallinckrodt cocaine bottle measures 3.5" tall, and the Merck red capped bottle is a cute 1.75" high.

The labels are very good (and original) showing only an occasional, minor stain or loss as seen in the photos. Only the 2.75" Lilly Morphine label can be described as fair, with modest loss as photographed. The 1.75" square Medinal box and label are in excellent condition.

Note that each medicine is also marked as a "POISON"!

Measuring 4.75 inches long, this C1940's metal noise maker toy featuring a Black Minstrel is marked "US Metal Toy Company". It remains in fine condition with some evidence of tiny superficial scratches and surface wear predominantly on the backside, but continues to make a very loud and abrasive noise when twirled on its pale blue handle--just as it did many years ago on a New Year's Eve night!

Measuring approximately 11 inches tall, this wonderful, vintage 1940s, Black Americana Chef cookie jar, remains in all original condition-- no repairs or repaint-- and it is NOT a reproduction!

This wonderful piece is unmarked but is documented in numerous guides as the Black Chef cookie jar made in the 1940's by the National Silver Company. It likely once had a "NASCO" foil label on its base which dried up and fell off over the course of the jar's lifetime.

Fabulous cobalt blue accenting makes this cookie jar quite striking in its appearance. A great display piece!

As stated, the cookie jar remains in all original condition-- a rarity for a cookie jar of this vintage! Please take the time to view all photos as they represent condition quite nicely. Glaze crazing typical to the age of this 60+ year old piece is evident as well as small surface flakes present here and there along lid cover edge- a very common site for flakes/chips on any lidded ceramic piece given that the lid was continually taken on and off during use and thus easily subject to damage. A single superficial hairline occurring during firing can be seen on the interior base; it does not go through to the exterior.

It is quite rare to find a vintage cookie jar in such fine overall condition! Reproductions abound on today's market, but authentic pieces such as this are quite scarce and are truly collecting treasures when discovered!

Measuring 6.5 inches long and approximately 4 inches in both width and depth, this wonderfully RARE, Black Americana, Red Cap, Railroad Porter String Holder is in very fine condition with just a sprinkling of white speckling where the black cold paint has worn away.

A stunning and very visually striking piece, it is labeled on back, "Fredericksburg Art Pottery USA", a pottery once located in Fredericksburg, Ohio, manufacturing between 1939-49. The back has 2 original hanging holes for placement on a wall.

Truly in wonderful, vintage condition with no cracks, chips, repairs or repaint! A fabulous addition to one's Black Americana collection!

Please note that the natural outdoor lighting used to photograph this piece has amplified the white paint flecking --the teeny white spots really show up more in these photos than on the actual piece in an indoor setting--- photo number one gives an accurate depiction of appearance.

An interesting and older circa 1940-50's, molded plastic, African female doll carrying a tiny African baby doll in a pouch on her back!

Fine detailing hallmarks this 11.25 inch tall doll. She is dressed in a black native costume -- all handsewn with yellow and black beads, and is adorned with a matching double-strand beaded necklace and single-strand beaded bracelet along with gold hoop earrings. Her lips, as well as the baby's, are painted red and both have inset life-like, plastic eyes. Her hands swivel at the wrists; her arms and legs are jointed at shoulder and hip, respectively.

No identifying marks are evident; clothing is securely attached and could not be easily removed for a further look.

Condition is excellent with the exception of damaged toes on the right foot.

Offered for separate purchase are two, RARELY FOUND, salesman sample boxes of Sharpoint Black Face Wire Cobbler's Nails measuring a very diminutive 2" tall x 1.25" wide and 1.75" tall x 1" wide!

The trademark for Sharpoint is a cleverly-designed, eye-catching, broadly smiling image of an African American gent. If one looks closely, one can clearly see the words "Sharpoint Cobblers Nails" printed within the black space of the gent's mouth! A very "sharp" advertising strategy!

Sharpoint Wire Cobbler's Nails were manufactured by the Charles F. Baker Co, Boston, Massachusetts. The smaller box retains its end flap which features both the manufacturing and patent information, with the patent number corresponding to a 1933 USA Patent date. Each box amazingly still retains the original cobbler's nails!

The boxes are in very good condition considering their age and the fact that they held tiny, sharp nails for over 80 years! As stated earlier, the smaller box does retain the end flap which features manufacturing info. The larger box is missing this flap. The cover litho on each box remains very crisp and clear. Typical, age-related edge wear is noted. Please peruse all photos for condition details. The boxes have been shrink-wrapped to protect the integrity of the cardboard, and they do contain the nails.

These VERY, VERY RARELY FOUND SALESMAN SAMPLE size boxes WITH ORIGINAL NAILS are offered at $125 each, or the two boxes can be purchased as a pair for $198.00 firm.

Offered are 6 circa 1900 aqua colored patent medicine bottles which were part of my collection. The grouping sports embossed labels indicating that they were a remedy or healer for lung, cough, throat or chest ailments. They measure from 5 to 7 inches tall, are in very good shape with no cracks, a few manufacturers' imperfections such as tiny air bubbles and glass flaws.

DR BALLES HUSTENA (for asthma, cough and throat) triangle bottle is 5 inches tall, has a tiny fleck missing from lip and interior staining.

Dr HOOKER COUGH AND CROUP SYRUP is a round 5.5 inch bottle and has light interior staining and minor exterior scuffing.

HUGH DAVIES COUGH MIXTURE is 5.5 inches tall and except for some scuff marks is very nice. The embossing is not as bold as the other bottles.

C.DEAKIN & HUGHES 'CHEST COUGH AND LUNG HEALER' is 5.5 inches and in very good shape.

ONE MINUTE COUGH MIXTURE measures 5.5 inches and shows faint exterior staining or old patina that appears that it can be cleaned.

Dr. J. W. BULL'S COUGH SYRUP measures almost 7 inches and has minor interior staining. All bottles display fine and would make a lovely addition to your collection.
