Measuring 4 inches long by 4.50 inches high by 3 inches deep, this fabulous, circa 1830's, English, porcelain, quill holder features a young, aristocratic lady surrounded by mounds of flowers and playing a lute.

Possibly Staffordshire, the quill holder features polychrome coloration with gold embellishment. Condition is wonderful with no chips, breaks, repairs, or repaints. Some discoloration seen under the base in the area where the quill hole is located. This discoloration may well be due to ink drips from quill or pen landing on the porcelain over many, many years.

A delightful piece!

Offered is a wonderful example of a late 19thC Pharmacy "tool of the trade" known as a pill machine but often referred to as a pill roller.

Pill machines were designed to enhance the productivity of the early pharmacist, and this design was, indeed, popular for many, many years. This pill machine is designed with 24 tubes for medicine-making.

The condition is very good, sporting a nice patina commensurate with its age and use. It is constructed of walnut and embellished with brass edge guards as well as brass grooved molds. The base measures approximately 11.5" L x 7" W x 1.5" H including the footed base. The paddle is 15.25"L x 2.25"W.

An apothecary classic, ready for your collection!

Offered is very visually appealing Veterinary Medicine Horse Cure Advertising Bag with wonderful graphics from the late 1800s. A very detailed and boldly executed image of an early American farmer with his sick horse brings to focus the unconditional need for this cure!

As noted on the bag, THE GIPSY COMPOUND CONDITION POWDERS were an all-purpose CURE invented by C.H. PROCTOR, of 13 Brown Street, Marlboro, Massachusetts. While the marketing description was specific to horses, the powders were additionally advertised as suitable for use with cattle, poultry, and swine as well! Truly an all-encompassing cure-all!

The paper bag has rich toning commensurate with its 120+ years of age and is in fine condition. Please note that the 3rd photo best demonstrates the actual color and toning. This bag is "new old stock" and was never unused. Measuring 15 inches high x 10 inches wide, this vintage piece would look absolutely phenomenal framed!

Offered is a fabulous pair of antique Apothecary Show Globes which includes one fancy Victorian style hanger. Photos provide close-up views of these intricately detailed, high-end show globes, and the 1891 photo from the WHITALL TATUM COMPANY catalog, establishes the age of these beauties.

The overall condition of the globes is very good with the imperfections and wear expected given their 130+ years of age. The decorative frames are sturdy and the globes hold water with ease. At some point long ago, the metal components were painted a gold/brass color. Today, the paint retains a delightful brass tone with an antiqued patina.

The attention to detailing and design of these show globe frames are second to none, pushing these show globes into a class by themselves. Note the intricacy and the elegance of design incorporated into both the show globe collar and the finial - simply outstanding!

The show globes measure 22 inches tall from the top of the crowns to the tip of finials. The exterior of the hand blown glass globes are in good condition. The interior of the globes note a modest yet common and unobtrusive haze which will not be visible when the globes are filled with the colored water of your choice. Additionally, the haziness should clean up if desired.

A singular, fancy wall bracket that swivels from side to side is included, measuring about 15" long x 9" high .

Acquisition of these rarely found, matching, beautifully stunning show globes is an opportunity not to be missed!

Measuring just 2 inches high, blown-in-mold, 19th century, clear glass bleeding or cupping glass is in excellent condition.

Extensively used in the 19th century and earlier, the cupping glass is a glass vessel from which the air has been exhausted by heat or suction creating a vacuum, and then applied to the skin to draw blood to the surface for therapeutic or curative purposes.

Offered is a delightful trio of 19th century, Horn, Apothecary Pharmacy Powder or Tablet Scoops. These tools of the trade were made in three different sizes ranging from nearly 5 inches long to 5.75 inches long.

These interesting pharmacy implements have a warm honey translucent tone and are complemented by a natural brownish color which is especially noted in the largest scoop. They were most likely made from cow horn as was typical of the period. Depending upon their size, a scoop, such as these, was capable of holding from 2 ounces to about 4 ounces of medicine when used compounding process.

The smooth surface of each scoop shows minor wear from usage. Overall, they have a very handsome and rich patina with various minuscule scuffs and imperfections commensurate with age and use. The only minor damage noted is a 1/4" split near the corner of the handle of the largest scoop.(SEE PHOTO).

This very scarce group of 19th century horn scoops will make a wonderful addition to any apothecary collection!

Offered is this very scarce and quite early, circa 1890s, James and David Kinnell, Smooth Face Hickory Shaft Golf Club made in Scotland. Although smooth face golf clubs fell out of fashion by the very early 1900s, they were still offered in catalogues for a number of years beyond this date.

This smooth face club is stamped on the back "PRESTWICK KK CLUBS". The leather grip is in good condition, and the straight hickory shaft sports a nice aged patina.

Measures 35 inches from heel to top of shaft and is probably a MASHIE although it is not marked as such. There are various small leading edge dings and examples of wear commensurate with this club's 130+ years of age and use.

SOME HISTORY

The Kinnell brothers both served as golf professional and clubmaker at St Nicholas Golf Club . James was their pro from 1897 until 1901 and his brother David served between 1902 and 1936.

Offered in this grouping are ten, 19th century, antique tools, seven of which represent the woodworking trade. Collectively, as displayed in the feature photo, these wonderful vintage pieces make a stunning wall display. For the advanced craftsman, these vintage tools remain completely functional and offer one that opportunity to step back in time and create using historic implements.

1) A C1870, American, very appealing, rather primitive IRON SQUARE measuring 24 inches in length on the long side and 12 inches in length on the shorter side. This solid tool shows the worn appearance of a well-used tool with moderate pitting and loss yet still displays its hand-stenciled numerals and measurement points.
2) A C1870, English, impressively-constructed MORTISING CHISEL that is in very good, usable condition. The durable hand-wrought, hardwood handle supports a hearty steel chisel that is stamped, "WR BUTCHER", along with the image of the English crown. English tools are well-noted to be of high caliber construction. This 9.5 inch long has a lovely, warm patina with a slight, 1 inch hairline where the handle joins the metal.
3 & 4) Two, mid-19th century, Pennsylvanian, iron, BENCH HOOKS. This hand-wrought pair sports a twisted iron design and measure 6 and 10 inches in length, respectively.
5) A C1860, American, elegantly formed WOODWORKER’S OPEN SCORP designed to shave away thin slices of wood. This handsome, 17 inch long tool beckons the skilled craftsman’s and designer’s eye, as it is in working condition and sports a lovely, rich patina. A 2 inch long split near the steel does not impact the integrity of the tool or its workable strength.
6) This circa late 19th century, American, 3 inch diminutive bicycle WRENCH retains most of its chrome plating and shows minimal wear. Made by Mossberg Co. of Attleboro, MA., this "Junior No.1" embossed tool is fully functional as it easily opens and closes.
7) A late 19th century/early 20th century, handsomely-shaped, brass and steel, PLUMB BOB measures 4 inches tall, sporting a nice patina and is ready to use. This American piece is embossed "GENERAL HARDWARE MFG CO, NY, NY, USA”, and shows minimal wear.
8) A high-quality, delightfully-designed, American steel, CALIPER made by the Starrett Co., sports a patent date of June 2, 1895, measures 4.75 inches long and remains usable.
9)This cute, 4 inch long, hardwood-handled GIMLET is in very good condition, dates to the 19th century and also remains usable if chosen. The tip terminates in a tiny screw shape to help initiate the boring of holes for screws.
10)The final tool of this grouping is a very lovely, 19th century, steel and brass, adjustable, COMPASS with plenty of life left. It is marked "P.S. & W Co.", measures 6.25 inches long, and is in very good condition.

Offered is a lovely, antique, late 19th C, hand-held massaging tool. This skillfully turned hardwood handle and frame features four wood and rubber rollers which facilitate massaging technique. Many modern hand-held massaging tools mimic the design of this antique piece.

Research notes that this early medical instrument was made by the Health Culture Co.

The following patent date is stamped on the interior portion of the wheel (PAT'D APR 12, 02), however, the date of 1892 is also referenced for this particular piece in several sources, so this device appears to have been marketed prior to the granting of a patent for the design.

Measures approximately 5 1/2" x 7 1/2.

Condition is very good! This visually interesting piece retains its original finish which is a warm, honey-colored woodtone with minor stains and wear commensurate with an antique instrument. No damage. It works!!!

This rare and unusual, finely constructed, Civil War Era, portable Field Surgeon's Operating or Gleason type Mortuary Table (also known as a Cooling Table) comes from the estate of a 4th generation New England medical doctor, and retains its original finish with wonderful patina.

The decorative and delicate detailing of this piece is at odds with its most gruesome history! Scalloped copper edge guards and the appealing pattern in which the drainage holes in the laminated wood tabletop were laid out contribute to visual appeal. The softwood table frame stands on nicely turned hardwood legs.

When opened and extended to its maximum dimensions, the table measures 72" long X 18.5" wide X 22" high. To facilitate ease of traveling, this portable table slides and folds to 40" long X 18.5" wide X 4" high. A leather carrying handle is attached to the table edge; legs, when folded, are secured in place with hooks.

Very fine original condition: expected overall wear (patina) with one hook missing and minor unobtrusive loss of laminate along lower table top edge measuring approximately 1/3” wide by 7”.

Made, warranted and patented in 1863 by Charles Emerson of Charlestown (a suburb of Boston), Massachusetts, this all original razor strap miraculously retains its original cardboard sheath.

The historically-fascinating sheath label is in exquisite condition with minor edge wear noted to the sheath. The strap shows evidence of use and also remains in fine condition.

The 9.35 inch long strap was advertised for use in sharpening not only shaving razors, but also pen knives and surgical instruments!

A rare piece of early Barber Shop Memorabilia!

Offered for sale is a neat 19th century apothecary bottle – TINCT. COLCH. SEM. - sporting a white with gold bordered painted glass label!

The 8.5 inch tall bottle has the manufacturer's letters “W.T.CO. – Pat. 1889 - USA” embossed on the base.

This label under glass (LUG) tincture bottle is in fine condition. The stopper sports ground glass construction as well. The label is complete and displays well.

This appealing bottle originated from a former pharmacy in Putnam, CT, which closed in 1949.

Offered is C1830's, hand-crafted, Woodworking Adjustable Plow Plane w/Bone Insert. This is a wonderful example of an early, unmarked, one-of-a-kind-constructed, woodworking tool with hand-hewn construction and repairs by a semi-skilled craftsman. Amazingly, this tool is approximately 200 years old!

Evidence of hand-craftmanship are scribe marks that extend beyond their desired point. The metal working skate is crudely riveted to the wood. Various early forged screws and nuts secure the sliding arms. To add to the charm of this early tool are two animal horn repairs to the fence, one of which is quite small and difficult to photograph.

The condition is commensurate with the honorable wear one would expect of an antique, utilitarian woodworking tool. The patina is wonderful with a smooth brownish finish, various scratches and dings, and mild wear. The blade and wedge do not exist.

An outstanding, mid 19th century, European-made, porcelain inkwell featuring two gentleman hunters physically fighting over the ownership of a just-snared hare, their hunting dogs loyally assisting in the jostling match for ownership beside them!

Measuring 7.25 inches wide by 4.75 inches deep by 6.25 inches high, this outstanding, circa 1860 - 1870's, polychrome inkwell features removable cover which reveals a base containing two inkwells without pots. Cover features seven quill holes.

Condition is marvelous with some very minor paint wear to edges where one would place hands to remove the top- as noted in photos (tiny white spots seen on the grass and ground areas). Paint/glaze imperfection to top of brown-haired gent's head as noted in photos. No chips, breaks, hairlines, repairs, or repaints.

A fabulous, rarely found, all-original, 150+ year old, antique writing implement guaranteed to complement any collection!

Offered is a wonderfully hand-crafted, mid-19th century, woodworking, HAND SCRAPER PLANE.

This circa 1860s example has an expertly carved, smooth-angled handle that ends in a flourished, curl-like shape. The overall form of the tool, when viewed in profile, takes on a somewhat futuristic, space-age design- an interesting concept given that this tool is approximately 160 years old! This handsome tool measures 8.25 inches long and sports a warm, aged, brownish patina.

The condition is commensurate with a mildly used antique hand tool. There are the expected unobtrusive small dings, scratches and imperfections typically seen in vintage tools. The blade is sharp and well maintained. A vintage split next to the wedge tightening screw is present on the underside of the scraper.

The hand scraper in woodworking serves as a shaping and finishing tool. It manually removes small amounts of material and can be used instead of sandpaper.

This handsome, late 19th century leather case is a wonderful example of a physician's traveling medicine case of this era. This particular example is larger in size and number of sections than is typically found, and additionally sports the personalized label, "Dr W. J. Gier MD" in old, silver-toned lettering on the front of the folded case.

The vintage black leather case with carrying handle on top, measures approximately 10.5" wide x 32" long when fully opened and 10.5" wide x 5.5" long x 4" deep when closed. The case is comprised of four different folding sections that house up to 28 corked vials per section, with only one vial missing from this medicine case. The clear glass medicine vials come in 2 sizes and measure about 2 to 2.5 inches tall including cork, with most vials sporting both paper label and cork. There are a few bottles labeled in red print as opposed to black, which indicates that the contents are poisons. Included are one OPIUM vial and 3 POISON vials.

The condition of the case indicates that Dr. Gier must have had a busy and lucrative practice as the case shows modest wear and tear to the leather components: loose seams, some leather loss in areas, partially detached flaps, one completely detached flap- all of which are commensurate with age and use. Some of the vial labels are also incomplete as noted in the photos.

In total, a fabulous example of the retinue of medicines that the late 19th century physician had on hand when making house calls.

Offered is a scarcely found, late 19thC, pharmacy, drugstore, or apothecary Powder Folder which was used by early pharmacists to package single dose powdered medicines into individual folds of paper. This brass pharmaceutical tool of the trade was designed to more accurately ensure proper dosage, and it facilitated customer convenience by wrapping powders into separate doses.

This diminutive folder measures 3.5 inches tall x 2.25 inches wide and has a ratcheting type clip on one side designed to adjust height and width to conform to dosage size. The condition is very good and the surface sports a wonderful, rich patina.

An essential piece for the well-curated apothecary collection!

Offered are two, decorative, late 19th century, English, porcelain, dental, toothpaste, pot lid containers. They are priced separately with the ORIENTAL TOOTH PASTE pot lid offered at $115.00, and the WOODS CHERRY TOOTH PASTE pot lid offered at $75.00.

The ORIENTAL TOOTH PASTE pot lid measures about 3 inches in diameter, sports a marbled exterior and is in very nice condition with a few faint edge chips to the base. There is a slight variance in color between the top and base.

The WOODS CHERRY TOOTH PASTE pot lid measures over 2.5" in diameter, sports red printing on top and is in very good condition. This container has some small chips on the interior edge of the base.

Displayed together as a pair or individually, these dental pot lids will add visual interest and appeal to your collection!

Offered is a group of six, very scarce, 19th century, tin, apothecary, storage containers with hand-painted, gold gilt labels and a decorative and stylized floral, front embellishment. The gold gilt labels make these early pharmacy canisters really stand out!

The tins sport an early and original, hand-painted, mustard-colored surface patina. The five smaller containers measure approximately 7 inches high x 4 inches wide x 5 inches deep (front to back including the distinctive front floral embellishment). The one large container measures about 8 inches high x 5 inches wide x 5 inches deep.

Structurally, the canisters are very solidly crafted containers, each with a slanted, well-fitting, hinged cover that snaps into place when closed. There are unobtrusive dings, and the finish shows modest wear and paint loss commensurate with a 19th century, well-loved and well-used, dispensary antique.

Offered is a fabulous, antique, all original, Apothecary Show Globe complete with an outstanding and highly detailed Gargoyle hanger and elaborately designed, all brass-plated fittings! Recently acquired out of an amazing collection of exclusive, high end art glass. Photos provide close-up views of this intricately detailed, high end show globe, and the photo from the WHITALL TATUM COMPANY catalog, dated 1891, establishes the age of this beauty.

One prominent feature of this piece to be considered is the excellent condition of all brass components including the hanger! Nearly all of this wonderful brass plating remains, retaining its original glossy sheen enhanced with a rich, aged patina.

The hand blown glass globe condition wise is near perfect on the exterior, while the interior notes a mild, unobtrusive haze which will not be visible when the globe is filled with the colored water of your choice. The haziness should clean up if desired.

The elegantly sculpted wall bracket measures 10.25 inches high x 2.75 inches wide, while the ornately and richly detailed gargoyle hanger is 14.75 inches wide x 9.5 inches high.

Acquisition of this rarely found and beautifully stunning show globe is an opportunity not to be missed, absolutely the best apothecary show globe I have had the privilege of offering in over 40 years!

Offered is a very nice C1900, Fairbanks, NY, Drug Store or Apothecary Prescription Scientific Scale complete with weights. Features of the scale include a mahogany case sporting a wonderful patina, and the bone (or early plastic) name plate which is marked "FAIRBANKS NY", an iconic maker of quality scales of the period. A brass labeled NY (New York) CITY asset tag further enhances this vintage scientific collectible.

Additionally, a brass beam, column and dial create a visual enhancement. There are 2 nickel plated pans and a complete set of boxed weights that round off this appealing scale.

The scale case measures 9"L x 4.25"W x 2.5"H and is about 10" tall with the brass column in place.

The overall condition is very good with the expected scuffs, dings and imperfections commensurate of a 120+ year old antique. Minor tarnish prevails especially on the pans and on metal areas. The boxed weight set is in as found very good condition.

A perfect compliment to one's apothecary - drug store collection!

Offered are two, very special, late 19th century, hand-blown medical ear syringes, one that retains its original wooden case.

First is a choice, five inch, wooden-cased hand-blown glass syringe that appears unused and is in excellent condition. The plunger glides smoothly and the syringe fits snugly inside the treen case.

Second is a 6 inch example that appears lightly used. The plunger is in fine, perfect condition; however,it seems to be stuck inside the syringe, and I have chosen not to try to move it.

An additional, third syringe included in this grouping is missing its tube, but is otherwise in good condition.

Offered is a wonderfully hand-crafted, circa 1870's TONGUE PLANE.

This early example measures 12.5 inches long and sports a lovely aged brownish patina. The toe of the plane has the owner's initials, "L.C.", boldly-stamped upon it.

The condition is commensurate with a modestly-used antique hand tool. There are the expected unobtrusive small dings, scratches and imperfections typically seen in vintage tools. The base of the handle has a 4 inch split that does not effect the integrity of the tool. A small, 1/4 inch split is noted near the bottom of the heel. The blade is sharp, well-maintained and is imprinted with the word, "WELDON", suggesting a probable Scotland-sourced iron. The plane construction, however, is most likely of English origin due to the bold manner in which the owner's initials are imprinted.

An exceedingly RARE and all-original, commanding group photograph of 1880's NURSES with a bit of the mysterious - might be depicting recent graduates of a nursing program with male and female head instructors or may be a photograph of hospital staff nurses with head nurse and administrator/physician. A bit of intrigue for certain, and most definitely a highly rare and unusual period nursing photo of substantial size! Found in a New York state estate.

Framed in original, period frame with wood backing (20 x 15.5 inches); the tattered matting has been removed. Photo dimensions - 14.5 x 19.5 inches. Very good condition with some light fading in the upper portion and a minute ding next to the writing. One of the nurses has the words "BAD GIRL" written above her head!

Offered is a very difficult-to-find and highly decorative group of six, matching, 19th century, iron, apothecary cabinet drawer pulls featuring stunning labels under glass!

Each wonderfully appealing drawer pull exemplifies the high style era of Victoriana design predominating the second half of the 1800's. Each pull measures about 4.7/8"W x 2 3/8"H x 7/8"D. The labels are reverse painted on glass, all-original and sport a lovely patina.

The condition of the pulls is very good with the exception of only one pull, VIBURN..., showing minor glass damage (see photo). Otherwise, some pulls have very minor paint loss, very faint superficial rust, and may need a slight cleaning of the glass, qualities which are consistent with 140+ year old antiques of the period that experienced consistent use.

Make no mistake, this matching set of stunningly-designed, label-under-glass style apothecary cabinet drawer pulls are a rare find in today's antiques market!

Offered is a very difficult-to-find grouping of twelve, matching, 19th century, porcelain, apothecary cabinet drawer pulls.

Each pull measures about 2"W x 1 3/4"H x 1 1/2" front to back (not including bolt).

The condition of the pulls is very good with only a few minor manufacturing imperfections that add to the desired patina of an antique of this age and period.

Most of the pulls sport the following, sometimes illegible, maker's mark on the bottom of the knob: "PAT. FEB 12, 89 - M.D.B. CO. - ST. LOUIS, MO".

Offered is a hard to find painted cast iron meat and juice press from the late 19th century.

This dual purpose pharmacy tool of the trade measures about 9 inches high and retains much of its original black japanned surface.

Offered is a very difficult-to-find, large grouping of twenty one, 19th century, porcelain, matching apothecary cabinet drawer pulls, priced at $45 for each pull.

Each pull measures approximately 1.4"W x 1.3"H x 1" front to back (not including bolt). (Please note- "INULA HELEN" is sold.)

The condition of the pulls is very good with only a few minor manufacturing imperfections that add to the desired patina of an antique of this age and period. The decorative gold embellishments painted above and below the medicinal labeling of each pull show moderate loss, primarily "use-wear", due to decades of continual handling over their 140+ years of age. Please note that the "TEREBINT" pull has a rear chip as noted in the individual, close-up photo.

The pulls each sport the following maker's mark on the bottom of the knob: "PAT. FEB 12, 89 - M.D.B. CO. - ST. LOUIS, MO", although on some of the pulls, this marking has been illegibly applied.

This is a fully-functional, ready to use vintage 1900 wood and porcelain pestle.

The condition is very good with only signs of mild wear commensurate of a modestly used tool of the trade. No damage or loss, just scruffs and a nice surface patina.

Offered is a handsome, C1870s, woodworkers, Adjustable Dado Plane. It is marked "W.COATES 57 BRIDGE STREET - MANCHESTER" and is most likely of English origin.

Dado planes are designed to cut a groove across the wood's grain. The front-mounted nicker iron would score the edge of the groove and thus avoid splitting and lifting the grain. The adjustable depth stop (which is controlled by the brass screw on top) regulates how deep the blade cuts into the wood.

This plane cuts 1/2 inch grooves and sports two functional blades that are in well-maintained, sharp, usable condition. The plane shows various scratches, dings, and minor wear commensurate with a modestly-used antique tool.

Measuring just over 9 inches long and very solid, this tool of the trade is ready for your collection.

Offered is a choice, late 19th century, physician's, Homeopathic Medicine Case No. 1 from Parke Davis & Company.

It is a nearly complete example containing 23 of the original 24 screw cap empty vials! This example was most likely part of a set of 2 or 3 other matching cases offering various additional remedies as the gold printing on the flap notes the following: "TABLET TRITURATE CASE NO. 1. A partial printed label marked "ASSORTMENT A..." indicates that Parke Davis offered a large assortment of different homeopathic medicines.

Each cylindrical vial measures approximately 3 inches in length including the cap. The vials are nestled in the leather case with most of them sporting a small paper label that is hand written or printed upon. The fitted leather case measures 7" long x 1.5" wide x 3.5" high and shows wear commensurate with its use and its 120+ years of age. Modest loss to the flap closure is noted with general wear and mild loss of material. One flap is separated as seen in the photo.

A wonderful pharmaceutical relic representative of late 19th century homeopathic medicine!

Offered are two desirable hand tools from the mid 19th century.

The first tool is a diminutive hammer which was probably used to drive small nails and tacks. The handle measures 8.5 inches long and sports a shapely head made of iron. This hand wrought primitive tool has a nice original patina and shows wear commensurate with age.

The second tool is called a RACE KNIFE which was a tool of the carpenter, cooper, lumberman and shipwright. The hooked blade scored timbers, staves, or logs with identification marks. This hand tool measures 6 inches long and has 2 cutting blades, one of which closes into the handle like a penknife. The metal component is hand-forged and is affixed to the wooden handle. The condition is very good, with a few ancient hairline splits noted to the handle. The metal has the expected minor pitting and wear of an early tool.

This pair of early tools-of-the-trade would make a great addition to your collection or display!

Offered is a very rare, highly ornate and meticulously detailed, 1887, medicine advertising mirror made for the G.G. Green Pharmaceutical Manufacturer of Woodbury, New Jersey. It features 3 PATENT MEDICINES, patent-owned and offered by Surgeon, Colonel G.G. Green. (brief Bio below)

This gorgeous advertising mirror was gifted to select pharmacists who were required to sign a contract promising to consistently offer the particular Green's medicines that were imprinted on the mirror's frame: Green's August Flower, Ague Conqueror, and Boschee's German Syrup.

The frame measures 21" square with an elaborately embellished decorative face of embossed detailing and is constructed of a plaster-based material. The name "G.G. Green, Woodbury, NJ" is prominently embossed on the bottom portion of the frame.

The frame's construction remains quite sturdy. The overall condition is good with some restoration required, if so desired, to the missing pieces as seen in the photos. The missing pieces cause minimal distraction from the beauty, intricacy and rarity of this frame. The mirror had been replaced at some point prior to our ownership.

A brief biography: Colonel George Gill Green served as a Union surgeon during the Civil War and later became a manufacturer of patent medicines. He reached millionaire status after buying the rights to Ague Conqueror, Boschee's German Syrup and Green's August Flower and then, successfully marketing their use. A local philanthropist, he provided the funding for the construction of Woodbury's Opera House. He also built the G.G. Green Manufacturing building, and both structures are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Offered is a wonderful example of mid-19th century craftsmanship. This elegantly designed HAND ADZE exhibits a perfectly formed handle that fits in the palm of one's hand like a glove!

Hand adzes, which are swung with one hand, are used for smoothing or carving wood. This early adze with its captivating, primitive look exhibits appropriate wear commensurate with a modestly used tool of some 160 years of age. Various dings, scratches, wood loss are evident in this piece yet add wonderful character to this early tool of the wood workers trade. Attached to the handle is a hand-forged, 4.5 inch iron blade that is nearly flat. As seen in one of the photos, there exists an older, 19th century wedge, though likely not original, which has served as a more than acceptable replacement over the years.

A lovely, early example of a woodworker's tool, designed, as was required during the 19th century, to assist with a specific woodworking function.

Measuring 2.75 inches in diameter by 3 inches high, this darling, circa 1890's, English, porcelain, double quill holder features a startled mother dove attempting to fend off a serpent about to devour the three eggs in her nest!

Likely Staffordshire, the quill holder features lovely polychrome coloration. Condition is wonderful with no chips, breaks, repairs, or repaints. Age crackling to glaze is evident along with a tiny stain on the dove's breast.

A darling piece!

Offered for sale is a desireable Civil War era, wide mouth, apothecary bottle sporting “FLOR. CASS.” on the under glass label! I believe that it means FLOWER CASSIA.

The nine inch tall bottle sports the following embossing on the base: "W.N.WALTON PAT'D SEPT. 23D 1862." The fancy, applied recessed label is complete, shows minor age related flaws and is in very good condition.

The bottle has a few unobtrusive manufacturing bubbles and flaws; otherwise no damage. The stopper is missing as seen. The inside of the bottle notes remnants of original contents.

Very nice indeed!
