Measuring only 5.5 inches x 6.5 inches framed, this darling little pair of 19th century, American Folk Art, hand-colored lithographs depict two different homesteads in Macon County, Illinois.

One litho appears to be the residence of a “R. Timmons” and the other of a “S. Macon”. The frames are a latter addition, likely circa 1930-40’s acquired by an individual interesting in preserving these colorful and historic pieces of Folk Art. They framing was done at a Greensboro, North Carolina gallery.

Both lithos are darling-- featuring pleasant, pastoral, Folk Artsy, 19th Century scenes! A great pair of mini, decorative and historic accent pieces!

Offered is a very nice C1900, Fairbanks, NY, Drug Store or Apothecary Prescription Scientific Scale complete with weights. Features of the scale include a mahogany case sporting a wonderful patina, and the bone (or early plastic) name plate which is marked "FAIRBANKS NY", an iconic maker of quality scales of the period. A brass labeled NY (New York) CITY asset tag further enhances this vintage scientific collectible.

Additionally, a brass beam, column and dial create a visual enhancement. There are 2 nickel plated pans and a complete set of boxed weights that round off this appealing scale.

The scale case measures 9"L x 4.25"W x 2.5"H and is about 10" tall with the brass column in place.

The overall condition is very good with the expected scuffs, dings and imperfections commensurate of a 120+ year old antique. Minor tarnish prevails especially on the pans and on metal areas. The boxed weight set is in as found very good condition.

This is an exceptional example of a circa 1915, MacGregor, DEEP GROOVE golf club that was designed to significantly enhance the backspin of a golf ball. As history would have it, these clubs actually worked and gave an unfair advantage to those professionals who were adept at using them! In 1921, RIBBED GOLF CLUBS were banned just after the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP by both the R&A and USGA.

The sole of the club is marked MASHIE. The back of the club is stamped as follows: PILOT (with arrow) ACCURATE and oval stamp with MACGREGOR, DAYTON OH.

Measures 36 inches from heel to top of shaft. The leather grip appears to be original and is in good condition. The hickory shaft is straight, sturdy and has the following stamping below the grip: THE CRAWFORD MACGREGOR & CAMBY CO. DAYTON, OHIO. The head of the club shows light wear and good grooves with generalized tiny unobtrusive pitting to the surface.

Offered is a very desirable and early, circa 1890 - 1900, hickory shaft, golf club marked PETER EAGEN - PRINCETON, NJ. The leather grip is in good condition, and the straight hickory shaft sports a nice, aged patina.

This handsome club is known as a BRASSIE and measures 40 inches from heel to top of shaft. The checkering to the face, including the rams horn on the leading edge, show minimal signs of wear. The brass plate on the base notes mild wear commensurate with this club's use and 120+ years of age. The lead weight on the back is secure and protrudes slightly from its resting place.

A very fine example of an early, usable, finely-crafted golf club.

An exceedingly RARE and all-original, commanding group photograph of 1880's NURSES with a bit of the mysterious - might be depicting recent graduates of a nursing program with male and female head instructors or may be a photograph of hospital staff nurses with head nurse and administrator/physician. A bit of intrigue for certain, and most definitely a highly rare and unusual period nursing photo of substantial size! Found in a New York state estate.

Framed in original, period frame with wood backing (20 x 15.5 inches); the tattered matting has been removed. Photo dimensions - 14.5 x 19.5 inches. Very good condition with some light fading in the upper portion and a minute ding next to the writing. One of the nurses has the words "BAD GIRL" written above her head!

Measuring just 2 inches high, blown-in-mold, 19th century, clear glass bleeding or cupping glass is in excellent condition.

Extensively used in the 19th century and earlier, the cupping glass is a glass vessel from which the air has been exhausted by heat or suction creating a vacuum, and then applied to the skin to draw blood to the surface for therapeutic or curative purposes.

Measuring 15.5" long x 8.25" high x 1.75" deep, this circa 1890s, wonderful and quite fancy, hand-cut iron utensil or clothing rack sports 5 hooks for hanging. It features an unusual stylized heart or perhaps even a stylized floral design which adds to its visual appeal. Condition is very good with excellent, warm patina. Faint pitting and minimal traces of rust. A hanging-hole on each end is present for easy mounting. A visually-attractive antique iron piece with utilitarian purpose!

Offered are three utterly fabulous, vintage, Victorian-era, brass-plated photo frames, each with original shelf stands on back. Please see cover photo #1 for truest representation of overall appearance of all three frames.

De-accessioned from our personal stock as we sadly no longer have the place to display them-- and our Wedding photo was displayed in the larger frame--, the frames are in all-original condition, complete with original shelf stands attached on the rear side as well as original movable pins on back that secure the photos in the frames.

In the larger frame, the brass plating is in very fine condition with very minor, minuscule scratches and pitting commensurate with its 125+ years of age. Some very minor silvering of the brass on the front of the frame is also evident, but as seen in photos, is extremely minor. This fabulous larger frame is a truly stunning piece!

The larger frame comes complete with glass and measures 17" high x 13"; the inside measures are 9.5" x 7.5", readily accommodating an 8"x 10" photo with slight trimming. This larger size is actually very uncommon compared to the many, many smaller-sized brass frames that were produced in the Victorian era. The larger frame is truly quite stunning and commanding.

The smaller rectangular frame has a similar amount of very tiny scratches and minor pitting, with some wear to the brass plate at the base of the frame where the color appears more coppery. This frame measures 12" x 9" and easily accommodates today's 4 x 6 photographs. This frame has not retained its glass, but just like the photo size it can accommodate, the frame will readily accept the glass from any modern, standard 4x6 frame.

The oval frame measures 10.75" x 8.5" and is in very fine condition with very minor, minuscule scratches, pitting or wear commensurate with its 125+ years of age. The oval opening accepts an approximate 3.75" x 5" photo and retains its oval-cut glass.

These frames display beautifully together or separately and lend a elegance to any photo displayed within!

Here is a fine example of a club created by a skilled craftsman! It is a circa 1910, smooth face hickory shaft golf club sporting a wonderful patina, stamped on the back "NICHOLLS SPECIAL".

Smooth face golf clubs fell out of fashion, and perhaps function, by the very early 1900s, yet they were still offered in catalogues for a number of years beyond this date.

The grip is missing except for the listing which is in good condition, and the almost-straight hickory shaft sports a nice aged patina. There is a stamp near the base of the grip noting the following: ???? A.& C.P. CO. Mfgr - Westboro, Mass. It measures 37 inches from heel to top of shaft and is likely a MASHIE NIBLICK although it is not marked as such. There are various minor dings to the metal surface and examples of wear commensurate with this club's use and 110+ years of age.

Interesting notes: This club was most likely imported from Scotland and sold by the English brothers Gilbert and Bernard Nicholls who emigrated to the US in the early 1900s. Both brothers (who were not clubmakers) had excellent professional golfing careers. Interestingly, Scotland imported thousands of wooden shafts from the US during the hickory golf club era as evidenced by the Westboro, Mass stamp on shaft.

Offered are two, very nice, circa 1915, smooth face, hickory shaft, golf clubs. Smooth face golf clubs fell out of fashion and perhaps function by the very early 1900s, but they were still offered in catalogues for a number of years beyond this date.

The 1st club is marked "FORGAN & SO.." and sports signs of honorable use and wear with faint pitting and has an original grip. The club has a straight shaft, an appealing patina and measures 38.5 inches from the top of the shaft to the heel. The shaft is stamped "FORGAN & SON - ST ANDREWS.

The 2nd smooth face club is stamped on the back "WRIGHT-DITSON". It is a handsome right handed model with a replaced lambskin grip, straight hickory shaft, sporting a nice, aged patina. It measures 37 inches from heel to top of shaft and has minimal pitting, small dings and surface wear commensurate with use and its 110+ years of age.

Two hard to find examples of early 1900s clubs which includes the popular Scottish club maker FORGAN!

Offered is this circa 1910-1921, very scarce, Macgregor DEEP GROOVE Golf Club that was designed to significantly enhance the backspin of a golf ball. As history would have it, the clubs actually worked and gave an unfair advantage to those professionals who were adept at using them.

The back of the club is stamped as follows: Guaranteed Hand Forged - BAKSPIN (with arrow - a Macgregor identifier) and MASHIE.

In 1921, RIBBED GOLF CLUBS were banned by the R&A and USGA just after the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP.

Measures 36.5 inches from heel to top of shaft. The leather grip appears to be original and is in good condition. The hickory shaft has a slight bend and is sturdy. The head shows modest and honorable wear, good grooves with generalized, unobtrusive pitting to the surface.

Offered is an interesting heart specific medicine dating to 1990.

The cute Parke Davis Nitrostat bottle measures 1.25 inches and is priced at $8.00.

Offered is a choice, late 19th century, physician's, Homeopathic Medicine Case No. 1 from Parke Davis & Company.

It is a nearly complete example containing 23 of the original 24 screw cap empty vials! This example was most likely part of a set of 2 or 3 other matching cases offering various additional remedies as the gold printing on the flap notes the following: "TABLET TRITURATE CASE NO. 1. A partial printed label marked "ASSORTMENT A..." indicates that Parke Davis offered a large assortment of different homeopathic medicines.

Each cylindrical vial measures approximately 3 inches in length including the cap. The vials are nestled in the leather case with most of them sporting a small paper label that is hand written or printed upon. The fitted leather case measures 7" long x 1.5" wide x 3.5" high and shows wear commensurate with its use and its 120+ years of age. Modest loss to the flap closure is noted with general wear and mild loss of material. One flap is separated as seen in the photo.

A wonderful pharmaceutical relic representative of late 19th century homeopathic medicine!

Offered is an unusual group of 2 Patent Medicines all of which were indicated for issues related to brain function or emotional conditions.

First, is a sample bottle of FLORAPLEXIN prepared by Franklin Hart of New York. The label notes that it is, "A positive cure for Dyspepsia, Liver complaints, NERVOUS EXHAUSTION, & Consumption." Lots of small print on the back noting that if this medicine is used, "you will be cured" of your particular symptoms which include being NERVOUS, IRRITABLE & GLOOMY or having EVIL FOREBODINGS - rather interesting claims not often made by patent medicine producers. Measures about 3 inches, in very good condition.

Second, is a diminutive, corked, 2.75 inch bottle labeled "THE ENSIGN REMEDIES, "Remedy No. 1." The label notes: "For Abnormal Mental States, Fears, Forebodings, Persistent Thoughts and Evil Suggestions". It is quite rare to find medicines that were specifically indicated for the treatment of mental illness. The Ensign Remedies company was from Battle Creek, Michigan, and was mentioned often in the various medical journals published during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The bottle is excellent and the label shows modest wear, loss and fading.

Third, is Dr. Schoop's is sold.

These nostrums give credence to "good things come in small packages". A desirable duo indeed!

Offered is this very scarce, circa 1910, Willie Dunn, Smooth Face Hickory Shaft Golf Club. Although smooth face golf clubs fell out of fashion by the very early 1900s, they were still offered in catalogues for a number of years beyond this date.

This smooth face club is stamped on the back "WILLIE DUNN - NEW YORK". The leather grip is in good condition, and the slightly bent hickory shaft sports a nice aged patina.

Measures 39 inches from heel to top of shaft and is probably a MASHIE although it is not marked as such. There are various small dings, mild pitting to the metal surface and examples of wear commensurate with this club's 110+ years of age and use.

Of Scottish origin, Willie Dunn settled with his wife and son in New York and established his club manufacturing business there. Not only was he a very talented golf club maker, he was also an accomplished professional golfer, finishing 2nd in the inaugural US OPEN, but also had gained a fine reputation as an outstanding golf course designer.

Offered is a wonderfully hand-crafted, mid-19th century, woodworking, HAND SCRAPER PLANE.

This circa 1860s example has an expertly carved, smooth-angled handle that ends in a flourished, curl-like shape. The overall form of the tool, when viewed in profile, takes on a somewhat futuristic, space-age design- an interesting concept given that this tool is approximately 160 years old! This handsome tool measures 8.25 inches long and sports a warm, aged, brownish patina.

The condition is commensurate with a mildly used antique hand tool. There are the expected unobtrusive small dings, scratches and imperfections typically seen in vintage tools. The blade is sharp and well maintained. A vintage split next to the wedge tightening screw is present on the underside of the scraper.

The hand scraper in woodworking serves as a shaping and finishing tool. It manually removes small amounts of material and can be used instead of sandpaper.

This is a fully-functional, ready to use vintage 1900 wood and porcelain pestle.

The condition is very good with only signs of mild wear commensurate of a modestly used tool of the trade. No damage or loss, just scruffs and a nice surface patina.

Measures about 10.5 inches long and ready for your collection or use. The #7 is stamped into the edge of porcelain.

SOME INTERESTING HISTORY:
The BURKE GOLF COMPANY started in 1910 and had a reputation for quality and intriguing innovation as evidenced by the fact that Jock Hutchison used their clubs, and Harry Vardon later gave them his endorsement. It was the company's deeply grooved mashie niblick which Hutchison used to win the 1921 Open, the first "American" to win it (although he was born and brought up in St Andrews). When the ban on such clubs later came into effect in July of that year, Jock presented the club to the R&A.
